Mardy Gras 2006

The Mardy Gras festival is a celebration of Brazilian music which encompasses Samba, Cha Cha, and many other beautiful traditions.

Fortunately for music junkeys like us,(Daryn,Ralph,Benedict and myself) the festival arrived in Singapore! Located in the heart of Clarke Quay, the gig draws in crowds of samba lovers, music fanatics, and of course passers-by.

So we went to check it out yesterday and it was truly spectacular. The show opened with Brazilian dancers who had near perfect bodies (Eg.8 pac Guys, Skinny and curvy Girls in a non bulimic way). They were inspiring to watch, swaying to the beat of the music seamlessly like leaves in the wind. Next came the Brazilian capoeira(Brazilian Martial Arts) dancers. They could easily put our asian pro break dancers to shame. The dancer moved as if he had no freaking bones!

Then the spotlight of the show came on as Radio Mundial kicked the gig activity into overdrive, playing famous santana covers and catchy samba beats of their own. Some songs they played included Guantanamera and Pa'ffiba. I couldnt help but sway to the beat of the music, tapping my feet excessively. All around i could see people yearning to burst out in dance.. now we all know singapore gig crowds are generally dead and stiff as rock. This festival was no different. The few people actually dancing were a few "Ang-Mohs" who apparently were half drunk.

The band was amazing though, their Bongos, Drums, Bass and Guitars in perfect Sync. Its no wonder they were priveleged to play with Carlos Santana and other great guitarists of our time. I enjoyed the gig alot and the music was fantastic.. so fantastic that i bought their album! Haha.. yeah they were selling their latest album by the stage and i must say it is good stuff..(I'm listening to it now)

A White Christmas.

This has been one of the most busy and yet pleasantly chaotic christmas eves thus far.

Spent the first half of the night with my two very good friends Yong Sen and Edward working at the Lotus Grill(Clarke Quay). It was quite interesting at 5 minutes to 12 when people starting rushing in to buy drinks and join in the countdown to Christmas. (Hooters and some other pubs initiated) When the clock hit 12 everyone erupted in a frenzy! Confetee flew everywhere and people were yelling and screaming... seizing the beauty of the moment! I couldnt help but join in the chorus of " MERRY CHRISTMAS ".. despite carrying 5 jugs of Tiger Beer in my right hand!

Soon after the "explosion" we finished our shift and went to change below deck. ( Yes, we work on a ship lol. ). Gave a call to my family who were having a reunion at the time to wish them a giant merry christmas. (Thank god for Loudspeaker Handphones).

Then the really fun part began. Partying with my two best buds! Haha.. yeah it was great. Retarded Edward though just had to yell out " BooYEAH!", jumping in the air in the midst of a super crowded area. Nobody really took notice though, they were all busy soaking in the warmth of the christmas spirit! Everyone was really friendly, greeting each other and basically just chilling out to great beats and music.

We ended the day eating Gelato at some ice cream place and boy was it good.

When i came home, i found my family had actually stayed up to open presents with me! Yeah that was awesome and we had a fun time opening the gifts and such...i especially liked the part where they opened my presents to them (bought with my first paycheck).

A trully heartwarming Christmas eve this has been... And i thank god for all the friends and family he has given me to share it with. Indeed Jesus's birth into the world has sparked great celebration and joy, however more importantly he has reminded us that love is the key to release. Happy Birthday Jesus!

A Con4 Xmas.

Celebrated Christmas with the con4's today! We started off carolling and lunching at Pauline's house. The stew she made was awesome and the singing went really nice too. I think we really embraced the spirit of christmas as we carolled to familiar hyms like " The First Noel " and " Angels We Have Heard On High" with backing music from my guitar. Looking at everyone's faces i could tell they were really embracing the beauty of christmas and reveling in christ's birth.
Side note: We had some pretty interesting concoctions of Pauline's too which included

- Raisin stuffed Tomatos
- Orange Juice with tiny shots of beer and "Kikckapoo" inside.

After Pauline's, we headed off for evening mass and ended the day crashing out at my place for awhile. We didn't do carolling though as many of the cons had to go home. We did however enjoy more good food prepared by my awesome chef of a mom! Lamb Stew and Shepard's Pie are just two dishes of a magnificent feast! Ahhh i can still taste the gravy....

And that was a real merry christmas spent with a great bunch of people.
Stay strong always con4 and god bless.

A very Merry Christmas.

What is Christmas to you? This year something has rekindled my true feelings for christmas deep within. Christmas is that time of the year where you dont hesitate, where you help your neighbour and be there for your friends. Its the best season to spread love and bring back the days when people were laid back and more relaxed. Where anger, tension and misunderstandings did not monopolise our lives. Tis the season when Jesus Christ was born! A gem brought into the world to lift our sorrows and bring salvation. The baby Jesus redefined love! Being that time again millenia after his birth, we should continue the tradition and spread love where we can. Share our happiness with neighbours and care for others where possible. Show our Family members we appreciate them...give our parents a hug! This is Christmas!!

Forget the constraints and woes of life and society, love is boundless. So just throw the old rule book out the window and celebrate Christmas!

Oh and here's a gig i might be heading off for tonight if i'm not broke by then..
Some of you guys might be interested..

Venue: GasHaus
Price: S$10 (Inclusive of one drink)
Genre: Metalcore (duh)
Time: 12pm til late.

TOTAL METALCORE BITCH. music the way its supposed to be played..

Just A Short One

I'll be going off soon and i'm feeling so dam stoner right now.
Heading off to church for some praise and worship then gonna check out Lime Sonic Bang at Cine.

They got some good mainstream stuff there..Electrico for starters then theres Ronin and Saw loser. So.. yeah think it should be nice. Abit of metalcore wouldnt hurt though, bring in some For Better Endings! Haha.. but i guess i've accepted the fact that singapore's underground scene is TRULLY underground. All hopes of seeing these acts getting popularised were dashed eons ago..

Anyway its a gig cum Mega Flea Market so i reckon it's definitely going to be fun.
(Having full confidence in my *ahem* bargaining talents).

Liberation!

Life's been great with absolute freedom! No more having to worry about Social Studies Homework, Maths solutions or anything stressful! Its awesome being able to carry on with all my hobbies without obstruction.

Didnt really go crazy this week with the freedom thing though. Just had a little jamming, crashed out at a friend's house and went job hunting... Turns out the consultant from TheCannery's a really indecisive person so we're not gonna take our chances. Ohh yeah been coming up with some new concepts for my apparel design production too. For those of you alien to this, i provide apparel designing services to give you unique one of a kind products. My works can range from Band logos on bags, to Whole t-shirts or even Temporary Body Art. For more info check out here:
Oasis Productions

Meeting the con4's tomorrow for some praise and worship/carolling discussions then heading off for the rock gig at St.Mary's. Think it'll be interesting seeing Shaun's Hardcore band there (For Better Endings)...

Ciao Readers.
